Embrace change or stay behind: the choice that shapes our future

Written by Yotam Cohen, Daisy Co-Founder & CEO

Remember the first time you used a ride-sharing app? That slight hesitation before pressing "Request Ride"? Or maybe you recall the uncertainty when switching from your trusty old flip phone to a smartphone. We've all been there – standing at the edge of change, feeling that mix of excitement and apprehension. It's human nature to cling to the familiar. Our brains are wired to favor the known over the unknown. It's why we often stick with the same coffee order, the same software we've used for years, or the same way of doing things at work. It’s not just you! This tendency is known as status quo bias. While it might feel safe, it can hold us back more than we realize.

Think about your daily life. How often do you find yourself sticking to familiar routines, even when you know there might be better alternatives? The rise of food delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats has revolutionized how we order food. What was once a special treat is now an everyday convenience. Perhaps you're still using a traditional bank, missing out on the better rates and innovative services offered by fintech solutions in online banking. These patterns show just how much we tend to prefer what's familiar, often at the expense of potentially better alternatives.

Sticking to old ways in today's fast-changing tech world can come at a high price. Imagine if we'd all decided that landlines were "good enough" and never embraced mobile phones. Or if businesses had stuck with fax machines instead of adopting email. A recent research study found that businesses that have embraced new digital tools are racing ahead, making 26% more money than those still clinging to outdated methods. On a personal level, think about how much time and effort you've saved by adopting technologies like online banking or grocery delivery apps.

How do we break free from the comfort zone trap? It starts with recognizing that the biggest risk in times of rapid change isn't the change itself – it's resisting it. It's about reframing our perspective: seeing new technologies not as threats, but as opportunities to make our lives easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable.

New technologies are changing our world faster than ever before. Artificial intelligence is transforming how businesses operate, from customer service to financial planning to healthcare. These changes aren't just small improvements – they're reshaping entire industries. The real challenge isn't just about using new technology, but about being open to new ideas. When we see a new tool or system, instead of ignoring it, we should consider how it might make our lives or work better.

Property management is a field where old ways of doing things have been used for a long time, life has evolved, but the industry hasn’t. The way we live in our homes and interact with our neighbors is about to look very different. AI and smart technologies are opening up possibilities we could only dream of a few years ago – from predictive maintenance that prevents issues before they occur, to online tools that help neighbors get to know each other better. Daisy is at the forefront of this change. We believe that by embracing new technologies with an open mind, we can create living spaces that are not just more efficient, but more responsive to human needs. Spaces that adapt to our lifestyles, rather than forcing us to adapt to them.

So, the next time you encounter a new system, service, or tech, choose curiosity over comfort. Remember, history's greatest innovations began with someone asking, "What if?" The future is full of possibilities.
