Supporting our onsite teams: The secret to happy buildings
Just like in hotels, residents should feel at home the moment they step into their building. Onsite teams are the foundation of creating this experience, and no one understands this better than Neris, Daisy's Head of Onsite Teams. With her deep background in hospitality and HR, Neris shapes Daisy's distinctive approach to supporting onsite teams. She shares how innovative strategies like employee appreciation events and 360-degree reviews create stronger teams, leading to better-run buildings and happier residents.
Q: How did you get into property management?
A: I spent 23 years in hospitality, working up to Director of HR, managing 2,000 people across hotels in the Caribbean. When we moved to the US for my daughter's college, I took a temporary resident manager position. Turns out, hospitality and property management aren't so different - both focus on creating great experiences for people where they live or stay.
Q: Why did you join Daisy?
A: Daisy took over management of my building, and I immediately saw they were different - really trying to transform how buildings are run. When they offered me a role leading HR for onsite teams, it was an easy yes. I wanted to be part of that change.
Q: What's unique about Daisy's approach to supporting onsite teams?
A: We know that great buildings start with great onsite teams. They're the ones keeping residents happy and buildings healthy every day. So we invest heavily in their success - from the right tools and training to celebrating their hard work. It's why we're the only company that hosts a Holiday party for onsite teams. When you support your people well, it shows in how the buildings run.
Q: What do you look for in onsite team members?
A: We look for people who care about creating great experiences for residents. Technical skills matter, but we really focus on finding natural problem-solvers who take pride in their work. That's how we build teams that residents and boards can trust.
Q: How does Daisy help onsite teams grow?
A: We're constantly investing in our teams through training and development. We do regular 360-degree reviews, getting feedback from board members and our management team to identify growth opportunities. This helps us create targeted improvement plans for each team member. Better teams mean better-run buildings.
Q: Having been through a management transition yourself, what's your advice to boards considering switching to Daisy?
A: I've been on both sides of management transitions, so I understand the concerns. What stands out about Daisy is how organized and communicative they are through the whole process. We put tremendous care into building and supporting our onsite teams, because that's what makes the difference between a smooth-running building and a struggling one.
Q: What excites you most about Daisy's future?
A: Looking at how far we've come already, I can't help but be excited about where we're headed. Being part of this from the early days feels special. When you believe in what you're doing and you're working with a great team, the possibilities are endless.
